Perving Out at the Tate

Of course, our day at the Tate wasn't only filled with highbrow, cultured art. In one of the (very dark) rooms off the main gallery, there was a video installation featuring several female models in various states of undress. Lisa and I walked in on an older gentelman.... How can I say this? The man was expressing his admiration for the video in a physical way. A very disgusting, publically-inappropriate physical way.

It was soooo gross.

We debated for a few moments after hightailing it out of there: Was he actually a part of the art installation? Maybe the artist was trying to make some sort of statement about the act of viewership in art. What constitutes art, and what should be considered a valid response to art?  It was an interesting possibility.

In the end, though, we decided that the guy was just a creepy pervert.

Isn't it funny, though, how a modern art museum can make you consider the possibility that anything is art? A fire extinguisher on the wall... A weirdo perving out in the dark... Something about the context of the museum makes anything seem possible.
